The High Cost of Education with focus on USA !
Updated: Jun 27, 2025
Why is waiving off student loans a big deal in the USA?
At Top Universities or any in the premium example of USA, the cost of education in one word is - ridiculous.

Universities are not exactly companies, yet they have the same system of charging students more and more as their goal. Meanwhile, providing education at affordable costs, if not free like in Germany, isn't even a thought.
For master's degrees, several universities charge as high as nearly US$2,000 per credit in a 30+ credit degree, bringing the total tuition to a minimum of $60,000 for just tuition. Then we have extra fees in the name of library access, equipment, gym, Wi-Fi, books, maintenance, deposits, semester service fees that must be paid to the university, facility use fees, and whatnot.
Do not forget about living expenses, rent/accommodation, food, travel, or necessities, which bring the total cost to above $100,000 (for the $60,000 example). In many universities, the costs can easily exceed $150,000 without any issues. Students can choose not to study as an option, but fee reductions are not on the table.
To show more charity and support for diversity, universities offer a handful of scholarships to students who excel the most in their careers/studies. This is not only an example of a cat acting vegan after eating a colony of rats but also leads to brain drain in many countries.
One of the most surprising things is that a master's degree can cost as little as $10,000 for the whole program, even in the USA, including all charges.
There should be a maximum per-credit policy, which, in my opinion, should be at a maximum of $100 for a 30-credit degree.
That is the ethical way of doing business.
The current system is not benefitting students, which is why student loans have ballooned to hundreds of billions of dollars, which are absolutely unnecessary.
What students need is a credible and affordable education with fees that can be paid with as little as 1/4th of the minimum monthly wage. Planners should actually consider the high cost of renting, food, and staying at a normal standard in line with the trending market. Will underprivileged sections even be willing to go to college to have a debt on their shoulders? This can be considered as one of the factors that makes them go the wrong way along with their environment, cultural and social upbringing.
If affordable education, available employment and respect towards daily-wage jobs become priorities, this can change the education system in the USA from a brain-draining nation to a self-reliant one.
